Fiber-Classic doors run 1-3/4 inches thick. Smooth-Star runs 1-3/4 as well, but has a smooth, paintable surface. Classic-Craft is the wood-grain line and is also 1-3/4 inches. The 1-3/8-inch slabs you find on some older Miami homes are almost always a cheap replacement door, not a Therma-Tru original.
For parts, we always recommend OEM Therma-Tru components over generic aftermarket copies. - You can see daylight around the door edge. Stand inside on a bright Miami afternoon and look at the perimeter. If light peeks through, your weatherstripping has compressed or torn. That gap is also where the cool air from your AC escapes, which you’ll notice on your next FPL bill.
- The lockset no longer catches. When a Therma-Tru door drops even 1/8 of an inch, the latch bolt misses the strike plate. Homeowners often blame the lock, replace the lock, and watch the same thing happen again. The actual problem is hinge wear or a shifted frame.
