How Winslow Windows & Doors Was Born

In 2011, Ed Winslow walked away from a steady paycheck because he couldn’t stomach what he kept seeing in the windows and doors business. He’d spent years in the trades, and every week brought another homeowner to his phone line with the same story: a bid that started low, then ballooned with “unexpected issues” once the old frame came out. A window that leaked six months after install, and a company that no longer answered calls. A “premium” door that warped in the first Florida summer and a warranty that turned out to be three paragraphs of fine print with no teeth.

One job stands out in his memory. A homeowner in South Florida had paid nearly twice what the job should have cost, for windows that were already failing. The old company wanted another deposit to fix what never worked. Ed stood in that living room, felt the draft moving through the brand-new window like it wasn’t there, and made a decision. No more. He’d start a company built on something simple: the price you sign is the price you pay, the glass that goes in is the glass that stays, and when something goes wrong, the same person who sold you the job is responsible for making it right.

Winslow Windows & Doors started small, working out of a home base in Florida, and grew by refusing to cut corners. Over time, that commitment carried the company into new markets, until the Winslow name meant the same thing across multiple states: straight answers, quality materials, and work that holds up to the brutal humidity and storm seasons this region throws at a window or door.

Ed Winslow’s Personal Connection to the Windows & Doors Trade

Ed Winslow didn’t grow up dreaming about windows. He found the trade the way a lot of people find their calling: by accident, then by obsession. He was young, working construction, and a job site supervisor handed him a broken window and told him to take it out. He remembers the weight of the glass in his hands, the way the old frame splintered as it came free, the smell of caulk and sawdust mixing with the heat coming off the driveway. He remembers thinking it would take an hour. It took most of the afternoon, and when he stepped back and saw the new window seated flush and square, closing smooth and locking tight, something clicked.

He started asking the older tradesmen questions. Why does this seal fail? What makes a frame rack? Why do some installs stay tight for thirty years while others leak by spring? The more he learned, the more he realized most people selling windows didn’t know the answers and didn’t care. They sold glass and aluminum, not comfort. Not security. Not the feeling of a room that finally stays cool in August.

For Ed, the work has always been personal. A window is the boundary between your family and the weather. A door is the first thing a guest touches, the last thing a child’s hand closes at night. When he installs one, he thinks about the person who will stand at that window during a storm, watching the rain lash against the glass and trusting it to hold. That trust is the job. It’s what gets him out of bed, and what keeps him walking job sites after all these years, checking flashings and square corners because he can’t not check. If he weren’t doing this, he’d probably be building something with his hands anyway. Some people need to see the result of their work at the end of the day, standing solid and true.

Meet Ed Winslow — The Person Behind Every Job

Ed Winslow is the Owner & Founder of Winslow Windows & Doors. He has spent more than a decade in the windows and doors trade, working his way from the field to the helm of a company that operates across multiple states. His training came from the ground up: years on job sites, thousands of installs, and a stubborn refusal to accept “good enough” when the weather eventually proves otherwise.

What separates Ed from a franchise technician reading a script is simple: ownership. He isn’t following a playbook written in another state. He built this one, line by line, and he stands behind what his name is on. When he’s not on a job or on the road between locations, he’s usually tinkering in his workshop, rebuilding something old into something that works again. A person who fixes things for fun is a person who takes your front door personally.

To every homeowner who calls Winslow Windows & Doors, Ed’s commitment is direct: you are not a ticket number. You are the reason this company exists.

Our Promise to Homeowners

Honest pricing. Every quote is a written line-item estimate. We don’t do “surprise change orders,” and we don’t ask for a bigger check once the old frame comes out. You’ll know exactly what you’re paying for before any work begins.

Quality parts. We install brands like PGT, CGI, and CWS because this climate demands materials that don’t fold under pressure. Coastal salt, hurricane wind, and brutal humidity are not abstract risks here. They’re the reason people choose impact-rated glass and frames built to hold it.

Standing behind the work. If something isn’t right, we make it right. That promise isn’t a marketing line; it’s the reason the company was founded. We’ve seen too many homeowners left holding a warranty that meant nothing, and we refused to be that company.

Our Credentials

  • State-licensed. Every pro working under the Winslow name is required to hold the license their state requires for the work they perform.
  • Insured & bonded. Every location carries the insurance and bonding its state and local market require before we let a crew touch a home.
  • Years of local experience. We’ve been working in Florida and beyond since 2011, through flood seasons, hurricane warnings, and the kind of heat that separates good installs from bad ones.
  • Strong local reputation. Our locations are built on referrals and repeat customers. Homeowners don’t recommend a window company unless the windows actually perform.

Those credentials matter to a homeowner because they’re the difference between a company that can legally and financially stand behind its work and one that can’t. A license means someone is accountable. Insurance and bonding mean you’re protected if something goes wrong. And years in this climate mean we’ve already seen the failure points a newer company hasn’t learned about yet. You want the team that learned those lessons on someone else’s clock, not yours.

Rooted in the Communities We Serve

Winslow Windows & Doors was born in Florida, and while we’ve grown into a multi-location operation serving regions across several states, the standard never changes with the zip code. From Miami to Fort Lauderdale and every local market we cover, each Winslow location is expected to know its area: the flood zones, the building codes, the neighborhoods where salt spray hits glass harder than a mile inland. We’re not a single shop trying to be everywhere. We’re a network of local teams held to the same honest standard, each one rooted in the streets and storms it serves.
